• Creation Science Fellowship Meeting. 18 Nov, 7pm - Alameda Bible Church, 220 El Pueblo NW. Thornton and Ruth Schwenk - "Fraud and Deception versus Truth in the Development of Human Embryos - Reversing the Plague of Abortionism." Because we were taught this in school, many are aware of the vague concept of a so-called biogenetic "law", introduced in 1868 by German evolutionist Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919). It was known by other terms such as "the embryonic recapitulation theory" or "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny", meaning that a human embryo supposedly re-traces its evolutionary history as it develops, (gill slits like a fish, a tail like a monkey, etc.) Although Haeckel's research was based on his own fraudulent drawings and the theory has been debunked (by most evolutionists), the concept persists in textbooks and the popular press to this day, and has left behind a heritage of tragic consequences, one of these being a balm for the practice of abortion. How can we overcome these lies and minister to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of women facing an unplanned pregnancy?

• Creation & Marriage. What does creation have to do with marriage? You'll find both in Gen 1-2. Without creation, there would be no marriage. Marriage is defined by Gen 1-2. Society redefines marriage or disregards it altogether as Gen 1-2 is forgotten or ignored.   If people don't like marriage, they say humanity is evolving away from the need for marriage. If marriage works best for the human design, then they say "change the design" through genetic engineering. God designed us and He said "it is GOOD." Our nation recognized Creation in The Declaration of Independence: "… all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights …."

• American Education Week. (Excerpt from Education in the United States, World Book Encyclopedia, 1972, Education, History of.) American Education Week, held each year in October, acquaints the public with the work of education and with its problems, achievements, and needs. It is sponsored by the American Legion, the National Education Association, the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, and the United States Office of Education.
  
  Education Week was first observed in 1921. Other countries have adopted the custom of observing an education week under the leadership of the World Federation of Education Associations. A typical Education Week program opens with sermons in the churches of the community on the importance of education. The rest of the week is devoted to such activities as open house programs, special radio and television programs, special PTA meetings, and exhibits in businesses, schools, and libraries.
  
  Each year, the sponsoring organizations select a theme for the observance of American Education Week. Themes have included Better Education - Your Job; America Has A Good Thing Going - Its Schools; and Interest In Learning. The theme for 2003 is "Great Public Schools for Every Child - America's Promise." Thank a teacher, administrator, staff, or volunteer this week.
  
  Teachers have a hard job and are worthy of recognition. However, the American education system is seriously flawed. By a very narrow margin, NM voters recently approved an increase in education funding (approx $75M). HB 212 will determine distribution of the additional funding. We'll see if it goes to teachers and students or more administration. Research done by Heritage Foundation indicates that more money does not improve public education. As legislative liaison, Sanders was very visible at the state legislature in Santa Fe, attending hearings, testifying before committees and communicating concerns of New Mexico Baptists on moral issues. Three-time governor Bruce King once described Sanders as the "most visible person on Christian causes" during his tenure.
