PRINCIPLE - the source or origin of
anything; a general truth, a truth so
broad and sweeping that many other
truths can be considered offshoots of it
Guiding Principles |
Ps 24:3-4
Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood, And has not sworn deceitfully.
PRAYER -
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and
for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life
in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight
of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto
the knowledge of the truth. I Tim 2:1-4
ENCOUNTER -
And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. Luk 19:13

Survival West by Jamie Armstrong
I have an awesome Teen Pact event to tell you about!
For those of you who didn`t read my last article, Teen Pact is a government program for homeschoolers. Once a year (in Feb) we have what we call "state classes." Teens from all over NM (and sometimes other states) go up to the capitol building in Santa Fe. We meet in one of the state buildings, hold worship, have daily speakers (usually from the house or senate), and go to places all around the capitol (including sitting in on sessions in the house and senate) .
![](040906b.jpg)
I`ve been doing it for about 21/2 years now, and it`s a lot of fun. Plus you get to learn about government, while spending time with kids just like you. I have to say that some of my best friends in the past years have been made at Teen Pact. But I`m getting off the subject. If you choose to take the government classes, Teen Pact offers a number of alumni events you can attend throughout the year as well, and one of those is Survival West. Survival is one of Teen Pact's "outdoors" events. You can find out about the others at their web site www.teenpact.com.
Anyway, I went to Survival West for the first time this year and it was a blast! I loved it. Survival West is held in Glorieta NM, and this year it was 23-28 Aug. Kids come from all over the US for this event. The goal of Survival is basically "to survive the week" (that's how director Curtis Whatley put it) but also to grow closer to the Lord, and to friends, in the process.
We have lots of different "challenges" throughout out the week, including a couple obstacle courses, which include 12 foot walls, poles, two inch beams, three legged races, and a 12 mile hike. We also have shooting competitions up at Thornton ranch. We shoot air rifles, shotguns, muzzle loaders etc. We also have a challenge called "Mission impossible," which is basically learning how to survive in the wild. This involves building shelters, camp fires, traps, learning how to catch water, and find food to eat when you don`t have very many tools. On one of the nights we played "underground church," which is a really fun game that you play in the dark (it`s a little hard to explain).
We also have a special speaker, and this year it was Mr. Kevin Swanson. He spoke at a nightly session we had, almost every night. I came away from that with a better understanding of what a battle we are in as Christians. The title of Mr Swanson`s messages was "taking on the big dragons." He stressed the major issues that we deal with as Christians every day (the breakdown of the family, the attack on motherhood/fatherhood, and the attack on human life). I really enjoyed all of his sessions, and I think a lot of us came away with a desire to be leaders and to influence our world for Christ. An interesting, and very exciting fact that Mr. Swanson mentioned is that, in a recent study/survey, home school students were 40 times more likely to vote, and get involved in politics than public or private school kids. That blew me away! Mr. Swanson also said that he believes that a lot of those adults (that were home schooled) are Teen Pacters. I think that is so true.
Teen Pact is the most effective program I`ve ever done. It always leaves me with a very strong desire to change the world for Christ. I would recommend this program to any homeschooler that wants to learn more about government, and even if you aren`t interested in politics (I wasn`t) this is a great experience for everyone. Parents are invited to come with their students, and experience it with them. My dad usually attends with me.
Well, that`s about all I have to say for now, but I encourage you to go to Teen Pact's web site and read about them. It might just be the nudge your teen needs, to go out and change the world for Christ. God bless.
Sincerely, JAMIE ARMSTRONG, Abq

Conservative Voter Guide 2004
Here's an update on the progress for the voter guide that will give you information on where NM candidates stand on conservative issues.
* Candidate Surveys - Many candidates have responded. However, several have refused to respond or have not responded to repeated calls. You can help by checking the list at www.rges.cc/voterguide.htm, calling the one or two candidates in your district, and asking them to respond to the Principles Community Impact Survey. The file transfer system has been disabled at www.spinn.net so please be patient until the website can be updated.
* Judicial Surveys - David Bernd, PhD, is conducting the survey and will compile results. Principles CIM will make the results available in various forms.
* Presidential Candidates voter guide - to be provided by Christian Coalition.
* Format & Distribution. Due to space limitations, the paper voter guide will be unique to a particular city and contain candidates for districts in that city. For example, the voter guide for Shiprock NM will include candidates in State Rep Dist 4 and State Sen Dist 1. Churches will receive a copy and can make as many copies as needed.
* Pro-Life Endorsements - www.rtlnm.org/THprimaryendorsements.pdf
* Registration Deadline - Oct 5th
* Citizenship Sundays Registration Materials - www.citizenplaybook.com
Oct 3rd last Sunday before registration deadline
Call 971-2053 for voter registration packet
* What's on the ballot? Expect to see more than just state and presidential candidates on the ballot. Watch www.rges.cc/voterguide.htm for updates. It's nice to know what you're voting on BEFORE you get to the polls. If you're not getting an absentee ballot, it's helpful to get a sample ballot (early voting or county clerk). The Bernalillo website provides a list of all voting districts and a sample ballot.

Update on Christian Heritage Series by Nancy Rue
Just had a call today from Focus. After I told them how much response I was getting after an article in the home school newsletters in just two states, they are reconsidering the out-of-print issue. Meanwhile, they have copies of thirteen of the titles still available, but since they aren't in the computer system anymore, they can't be sold. OH, brother. Anyway, there is still hope. Thanks for all your help.

Reclaiming Our Nation Conference in Abq
Reclaiming Our Nation Through the Principles of American Christian History and Government is a seminar for adults and high school students designed to awaken Christians about our American Christian heritage and to teach how to think and reason Biblically in order to understand our past and future as Christians and Americans so that we may then apply the knowledge into every area of our life in our family, community, and nation. All Christian adults, pastors, youth pastors, teachers, homeschool parents and high school students are encouraged to attend.
The seminar will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2004 from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm at The Foothills Fellowship on Tramway. For reservations and information, please call Shannon Hoskovec at (505) 710-4574.

Darwin, Design, and Democracy Symposium in Abq
THE largest intelligent design (ID) symposium ever in Abq NM. Even if you can attend only a part of the conference - don't miss it! What's so important about ID? It's the wedge that WILL break the stronghold of evolution in our education culture. Darwinism has become a religion to the exclusion of any other theory of origins. It has ceased to be science and is currently promoted because some scientists believe more evidence supporting macro-evolution will be discovered in the future. Look at how tenaciously liberals hang-on to the antiquated teachings of darwinism and you will see how important it is to the entire educational system for brainwashing our children into believing the universe and life occurred by accident.
Download a bulletin insert at www.rges.cc/DDDS.doc.
The world religions class at TVI is taught from the perspective that religion EVOLVED from simple to complex (just like the rest of evolution). The first documented reference to God in the most primitive culture becomes man's first concept of God. In other words, man invented God. If evolution is not true, then perhaps God actually existed before man and NOT a figment of man's imagination!

Halftime Summit with Bob Buford
Many of us reach midlife and have achieved some measure of success, but there is still something missing. In our most honest moment, the prospect of spending the rest of our life just accumulating more stuff or pursuing career advancement is simply not enough. We want our second half of life to really count for something.
Have you ever asked yourself: Is there life after success? What do I want to be remembered for? What do I want to be when I grow up? If you've wrestled with any of these questions, you are not alone. These issues and more will be addressed at the Halftime Summit in Albuquerque, November 3.
If you have an interest in exploring the possibility of moving from success to significance, join us for one of these events. It is designed for you, and your spouse, and will help you to discover and live out God's unique calling on your second half of life. Having held these events all over North America, with thousands of high capacity business and professional leaders, we are convinced that it will be worth your time. You can expect this event to feature:
* A keynote address from Bob Buford - Author of Halftime, Game Plan, Stuck in Halftime, and Finishing Well (Bob is not present at all Summits)
* Facilitation by Lloyd Reeb - Author of From Success to Significance
Curriculum proven to pave the way for your midlife transition
* Personal "real life" halftime stories
* Networking opportunities with peers
* Solid "Next Steps" to pursue this most important time of life
The Halftime Summit is currently scheduled at Grace Church, 6901
San Antonio NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109 on November 3, 2004. Cost is $75 and includes lunch, curriculum and materials. For more information, see the website
www.halftime.org/news/index.cfm, or contact Pastor Bruce Lininger at the church, 821-8800,or email bruce@gracechurchabq.org.

Grant Writers Needed
Wings Ministry to families of prisoners in NM needs help with writing grants. Help me write grants, as I KNOW we are on to something really special through our Wings for L.I.F.E. program. This "support group" for family members of inmates and releasees (new 'politically correct' term for former inmates) offers practical help and guidance that will hopefully break the family patterns of incarceration. Mentoring children of prisoners will be greatly strengthened and helped by working with the caregiver in the family as well as with the children. There are millions of dollars that are going to programs that provide mentoring for children of prisoners. I honestly haven't seen any program that is so all-inclusive as our Wings for L.I.F.E. program. Secretarial and organizational help also needed.

What Can I Do to Strengthen Marriage?
The divorce rate is skyrocketing. About half of marriages today fail in divorce. I attended a wedding last week and I was convicted by the responsibility of witnesses at the wedding. EVERY person attending the wedding has a responsibility to hold that couple accountable over the years. I have attended weddings of many couples that I wish I would have paid more attention to as the years went by. We have all heard the vows - "until death do we part." The wedding I just attended actually included a vow for the audience to support the couple in their marriage. Next wedding you attend, no matter who it is, get the address of the couple and send a card on a regular basis (monthly, quarterly, yearly). What would you do if you were thinking about a divorce and you got a boatload of letters telling you not to? Marriage needs to be restored to the commitment it was intended to be.
If your church is interested in a Community Marriage Policy, call 971-2053 for more information. A network of churches that marry only couples that agree to premarital counseling is a strong deterrent to hasty marriages that quickly end in divorce.

My "Country" Tis of Thee - Mr Mom
You can tell a culture by its music. Country music has had an unusually high content of family, patriotic, spiritual, masculine themes lately. Our feature song this issue is "Mr Mom" by Lonestar. Who thinks the job of a stay-at-home Mom is easy? Not this artist! Listen for the song on your favorite country station or view the entire lyrics at www.anysonglyrics.com/lyrics/l/lonestar/mr-mom-lyrics.htm.
Pampers melt in a Maytag dryer
Crayons go up one drawer higher
Rewind Barney for the eighteenth time
Breakfast, six naps at nine
There's bubble gum in the baby's hair
Sweet potatoes in my lazy chair
Been crazy all day long
Oh been crazy all day long and it's only Monday
Mr. Mom
Balancin' checkbooks, juggling bills
Thought there was nothing to it
Baby, now I know how you feel
What I don't know is how you do it

Friends of the Family is a group of key supporters who invest monthly in family ministry. Their commitment is key to the ongoing effectiveness of Focus on the Family and enables us to extend the ministry to many who cannot afford the resources and services they need. They also enable our radio programs, our efforts to defend family values, and our outreaches to special groups like teens, unwed mothers, and non-Christians. For more information, call 1-800-A-FAMILY.
You can send tax-deductible donations to Foothills Fellowship for direct support of the Principles Community Impact Ministry in NM. A specific goal of $10,000 is targeted for a full time lobbyist for the 2005 60-day NM Legislative Session. Several states are passing state constitutional amendments to protect traditional marriage since the marriage amendment did not pass the US Senate. This will not happen in NM without prayer and a strong pro-family presence to push it through.
