Pearl Harbor Day
Why must we remember something as terrible as Pearl Harbor?
Vulnerability - our reliance on the Lord God.
Responsibility - learn from our mistakes.

Now we have a second "Pearl Harbor Day" called "Patriot Day" when we were attacked on our home soil on Sep 11 with approximately the same number of casualties. Search the web for "Pearl Harbor Day" and you will discover about 34,000 hits. The first website listed is the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. Shortly after the attack on December 7, 1941 and America's entry in to the war, one of the first and the most classic World War Two patriotic songs was written by Don Reid and music by Reid and Sammy Kaye. The song, "Remember Pearl Harbor," described as a "March with Spirit," was based on the popular saying of the day and became an instant hit with the public. It was played by every radio station and enthusiastically sung at every social, family and religious gatherings across the country. Another tremendously popular song at the time was "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition."

An interesting "common thread" principle has been the need to be a friend to Israel. "Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed [be] every one that curseth thee, and blessed [be] he that blesseth thee." Gen 27:29 "He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed [is] he that blesseth thee, and cursed [is] he that curseth thee." Num 24:9 God uses nations to intervene and will not allow the destruction of His people.

While democracy in Iraq will not have the Christian influences America had, we should pray for its success for the promotion of the Gospel. Muslim countries are extremely resistant to missionaries and democracy could be an open door where there typically is none. Pray for leaders with courage to step forward in spite of the threat of terrorism. Pray for discernment and cooperation for citizens to vote for leaders of great wisdom. More in future issues on the Iraqi Constitution and its protection of religious freedom.

Hometown Testimony - NM Soldier Serving in Iraq
God has preserved my Son, Ben, while he serves with the Army's 25th Infantry Division in Mosul, Iraq. The vehicle he drives, a 23 ton Stryker, was hit by an IED (improvised explosive device) and virtually destroyed. One soldier was hit by a BB sized piece of shrapnel. No one else was harmed. Two weeks later, a 60MM mortar landed 12 feet from Ben's hooch, but did not explode. Thanks to God for His protection.

Why Creation?
Are your teenagers prepared spiritually as well as academically for college?

"The #1 reason young people give me for rejecting the Gospel is evolution." (Mark Cahill, top youth evangelist, speaker, and author) College is where many Christian students have their faith challenged from many directions. They are away from their parents, their church, and their friends. They experience new "freedoms" and are seriously challenged by non-Christian professors who many times outright try to destroy the reliability and authority of the Bible - starting with evolution.

You can expose your students to answers to questions on evolution before they have to address them alone. UNM is a very liberal campus and has a number of professors hostile to Christianity and a Christian Worldview. Some local resources for addressing questions on evolution and the Bible are:
* Creation Science Fellowship - monthly meetings, third Tue except Dec
* Intelligent Design Network - scheduled events and meetings

Expect more battles in the near future over the teaching of evolution and creation. Why would the opposition be so concerned if evolution were not the key to the hearts and minds of the next generation? "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Eph 6:12

This will not happen in NM without prayer and a strong pro-family presence to push it through.
