School Board Elections
Possibly THE pivotal issue in American culture, education has taken a back seat in the list of priorities for most Americans today. The ones most involved seem to be the overseers. As Lincoln said, "The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next." What is the philosophy of the public school system and why are we paying for it with our taxes? Consider the battleground of ideas we face in classrooms today:
- intolerance toward Christianity, prayer, and the Bible
- exclusion of any theory opposing evolution
- the illusion of "safe" sex before marriage
- promotion of homosexual behavior
- rejection of the sanctity of human life before birth
- proliferation of drugs and violence
- segregation of education by language (english, spanish, native amer, etc.)
Your vote on Feb 1 is especially important for two reasons. One - the turnout will be extremely low and just a few votes will determine the outcome. Two - the state school board has been supplanted by the Secretary of Education thus making the local school board your only voice in public education. Using tax dollars to support unmarried partners is an abomination and is a sad reflection on our view of marriage.
From a concerned citizen of NM:
"... statement about APS having to take same sex unmarried couples because of the law is baloney on her and the board's part. Other districts are doing just fine the way it has always been. What concerns me so deeply is that the board, under ... leadership and vote, not only voted to take on same sex marriages, but unmarried shack-up opposite sex live-ins also. They only have to show three simple things, a utility bill with both names etc. I think that this is unprecedented in the nation. My insurance was increased to pay for these people, and their many children. They have nothing to do with APS what so ever."
Contact the candidates in your area and make a wise decision at the polls on Feb 1.
You will also see a bond issue on the ballot. Bonds incur interest. We get more for the money if all these piecemeal expenses are included in the budget AND they are more accountable that way. Has public education been accountable for the money they receive? What happened to the $75M authorized by the Constitutional Amendment in Nov 2003? How much made it to the students and teachers? How much did the Gov use for his pet projects? The organization Think NM is working on a bill to force at least 60% of public education funding to go to students and teachers where it belongs. NM Legis Reports, 25 Jan 05, said "NM has twice as many state employees per capita as TX or AZ."

Save Abstinence in NM
On Friday evening, January 14, the NMAEC had a lengthy meeting with Secretary of Health Michelle Lujan Grisham and presented her with our concerns about attacks against Title V which have been developing since mid-November. The Albuquerque program has received the greatest harassment. The Secretary was asked directly whether or not she was going to continue Title V funding in New Mexico (approx $500K per year), and she responded that she has not yet decided about that. This is a crucial time for abstinence education in New Mexico! We need your help to convince policy makers to continue this funding and to support all abstinence programs. Private organizations that are providing abstinence education are not immune from these attacks nor are programs funded through other federal grants. Here's what you need to know and how you can help (see www.rges.cc/abstinence.htm).
Here is the link for Jerry Gramckow's article "Condom Cover-Up: 'Safe-Sex' advocates are Manipulating the Medical Accuracy Debate." www.family.org/cforum/fosi/abstinence/ppi/a0035252.cfm
[Note from the editor. A common thread in the values debate is the effort by liberals to suppress information. Consider what is happening with KNME and intelligent design, with DOH and abstinence education, with the media/DOH/DOE and unborn human life (parental notification, informed consent, fetal pain).

Endangers private providers and incentivizes parents to get four year old children out of the home. Home is the BEST place to prepare for kindergarten. We need a bill to help low income families to care for children AT HOME. Cost to taxpayers: $9M for pilot program. Total program cost is unknown: "Dr. Steinhaus said that the $53 million quoted in the paper is the total cost for all seven years. I heard another staff say later that this was the estimated cost yearly by year seven. So, I am still not sure what the correct answer is. They may be tired of hearing this, but if they offer these programs for free to any but the children who qualify for state subsidy or free lunch program, they will harm our private businesses. Any program that does not participate, will never be able to compete with free programs. If even one child care program closes, this of course removes choices and services in communities, which could eventually harm public programs who must take up these responsibilities. The significance to the tax payer is something to consider, as well."

Conservative Lobbyist for NM
Former Senator Tom Benavides is serving NM as a conservative, Christian, pro-life, pro-family lobbyist this session. He works for expenses and can cover as much of the session as finances allow. He agrees 100% with our guiding principles. We need Tom to keep us informed and to educate NM legislators. This will not happen in NM without prayer and a strong pro-family presence to push it through. Tom has the passion and contacts to provide a powerful influence in Santa Fe especially during committee hearings. Bills like unborn victims of violence, definition of marriage, parental notification, homeless programs, and election reform will stand or fall on our ability to convince committee members the bills are good. Bills like homeschool testing, domestic partner benefits, pre-K initiative, and teen pregnancy (birth control & abortions) are best killed in committee before they reach the floor for a vote. Tom can get the right information to the right people at the right time. Please send contributions to Foothills (designated for Tom Benevides).

Should a Christian Pay Federal Taxes? (an alternative view) By Bob Lester
If you truly want to settle this issue once and for all and have an open mind and are willing to do some verifiable research I would urge you to continue reading this. If you have already made up your mind and are not willing to be a Berean please stop right here and save yourself and me lots of time and useless discussion. First off as with any other "law" we have to determine if it applies to us or not. If a government official came here from France and stated you have broken thus and such law (while here in America) your reaction, I would guess, would be to laugh hysterically and tell him to leave. The reason you could do this is that they have no authority/jurisdiction over you. This is a simplistic example but one few would dispute.
By the same token, as with any other law or governing body, do their laws pertain to you? I will suggest to you that if you clearly understand WHO YOU ARE you will find the federal government has NO JURISDICTION OVER YOU with regards to federal income taxes. Let me say that another way. About 10% of us are doing business in federal jurisdictions such as Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico etc. or in government or military professions and/or other regulated federal jurisdiction enterprises and do legally and morally owe the tax. That leaves the remaining 90% of us who don't know who we are and continue to "VOLUNTARILY" pay the tax. If you consistently quack, act like or say you are a duck there are those who will take your word for it. The IRS is happy to accommodate the millions of ducks out there. Go to www.originalintent.org (14 amendment clarified).
There are several passages in the Bible that tell us we NEED TO obey government officials but what about when they tell us to do something that goes against God's law such as lying or stealing. Did you know that when you sign a 1040 form you are stating the following?
1) that you are doing business in the Virgin Islands
2) that someone has administered an oath to you
3) that you have "income" as defined by the law
All of these statement are usually not true. If in fact if what I am telling you is true (and you can easily verify it) then the government is in fact stealing from you and you are saying it's ok.
Go to www.theft-by-deception.com. You can order the video by the same name which does an excellent job of explaining how we got into this mess. Also I recommend www.imfdecoder.com/bob.
These issues are indeed very complex and I can assure you I have done extensive research on these facts, have met in person those who hold them to be true, have seen the documents, the laws and the deception involved. So why does it continue. I will suggest to you that the Exon Valdiz was not easy to turn when disaster/truth was imminent. This problem too is so large, soooo ugly and entrenched that doing a course correction on the Exon Valdiz would be easy by comparison. I urge you to verify this information first hand as I have done, then we can talk, not before. See the link for additional information as this issue is very complex to say the least. These statements are solely the opinion/conclusions of Bob Lester.

Dr. James Dobson sets the record straight on SpongeBob
By now you've undoubtedly heard about the controversy surrounding statements [Dr Dobson] made recently in which [he] reportedly accused a cartoon character named SpongeBob SquarePants of being "gay." Although [he] never made any such comment, the media has repeated the story incessantly, to the point that the truth of the matter has been completely obscured.
Here's what actually happened. In an address to congressional leaders last month, [Dr Dobson] briefly took the time to express [his] concern over a video that is being distributed to elementary schools featuring not only SpongeBob, but more than 100 additional children's characters including the Muppets, Barney the Dinosaur, Bob the Builder, and Winnie the Pooh. The video itself is relatively harmless and is devoid of any sexual content. However, it is being incorporated into a larger campaign, created by an organization called the We Are Family Foundation, to teach "tolerance" to young children. Unfortunately, rather than simply encouraging tolerance of those who come from different cultural, religious, or socio-economic backgrounds - which we believe is a worthy objective - the curriculum also contains material designed to encourage young children to celebrate homosexual behavior.
