  What is TeenPact?
  
  Hey Everyone, Jamie Armstrong, coming to you live from............. Ah forget all that. I have a great report for you about Teen Pact 2005! Well if you've read my past articles then you already know a lot about Teen Pact, and what we do there. But for those of you who haven't read them, here's a little info about what it is.
  
  Teen Pact is a great program for home-schoolers, and really any kid who wants to learn about government, and can get the "ok" from his or her school. Teen Pact is a government class that takes place at the capitol of your state. For us here in New Mexico, it's Santa Fe, but other states participate in Teen Pact too. We go up to the capitol for four days (unless you stay for speech class and Teeny Pact) and we learn about how government works, how a bill becomes a law, and parliamentary procedure. Plus we have a whole mock legislature where we actually get to do things just like the real Senators and Representatives. It's a lot of fun. That's about all I have time for as far as what Teen Pact is, but if you want to find out more about it or how your child can attend, go to www.teenpact.com (that's their official website).
  
  All right, on with this years report. This was a great year for all of us at the Teen Pact 2005's capital class. We did everything from mock legislature, to interviewing lobbyists, to swimming in the hotel pool. We read and discussed our bills. And we passed some pretty crazy ones in our mock legislature. We learned how to dissect and understand the newspaper. (Fancy learning that at a government class.) We also discussed how much power the media has over what we think. We had some great night sessions with our guest director Chad Robertson, who celebrated his 25th birthday at Teen Pact. And last, we got to hear some of our government officials talk to us about things like: what their dreams are for this generation, if they believe in God and what their view of Him is, what they believe about the "separation of church and state," their definition of a "worldview" and what theirs is, and how to tell a regular prairie dog from a black tailed prairie dog.
  
  We had a lot of first timers this year. So many that I'd say it was about split in half between alumni and first timers. A lot of our old, and much loved attendees of Teen Pact have gone on and will most likely be graduating at the home school convention this year. So I'd like to honor a few of our senior alumni that will be going on to other things this year: Brock Kniprath, Teddy Adkins, Kelsea Firestone, Lacie Mari Cordova, and Austin Holler, who staffed at class this year. To all of you, I wish you the best that God has for you in your future lives. Teen Pact will never be the same without you.
  
  Ok, now to tell you about the results of our TeenPact elections this year. The polls show Aaron and Ted running a tight race oh it's been hit and miss in the debates this year. We don't know who's gonna come out on top ....................... Gosh don't you get tired of those? Well unlike the US government we only have a week to do these elections. So we do things a little different. If you want to run for an office at Teen Pact, you have to be elected by the people on your committee, you have to answer some questions in front of the class, and if you get elected you have to give a speech. We have five offices to fill every year at Teen Pact. Four of them are the offices of Senators/ Representatives, and the other is the office of governor.
  
  This year we had eight candidates for Senator, and eight for governor. Let's see if I can remember them all...............(I apologize for miss spellings): Isaac Neil, Ben Andraka, Kenyon Firestone, Sarah Skeens, Nathan Jurgenson, Caitlin Rock, Garret Idler, and James(JAS) Sheppard all ran for the office of Senator. Joey Grider, Josh (Ted) Thompson, Heidi Lewis, Andrew Talbot, Koben Puckett, Nicholas Quinteros, Aaron Harris, and Kris..... um I can't seem to remember her last name, sorry about that. Anyway, they ran for the office of governor.
  
  Well now, wouldn't you like to hear the winners? Just kidding, of course I'm going to tell you that. Ok, our four Senators are............Isaac Neil, Sarah Skeens, Nathan Jurgenson, and Kenyon Firestone. And last, but certainly not least, Aaron Harris was elected Governor of the Teen Pact class of 2005. (Eat more chicken) (that was his slogan). Now that would be a good stopping point, but there are some other people that I need to thank. I want to thank all the parents of Teen Pacters for their sacrifice of money and time to get us up here. I would like to thank my parents in particular. They worked really hard, spent money, and took a lot of time to be with my brother Sean and I, plus my dad actually came with us to Teen Pact and that was great.
  
  I also want to thank all of the great, awesome people who staffed Teen Pact. (I can't seem to recall all of their last names, so bear with me here): Chad Robertson (guest director), Colten Wilson (program director), Joseph McGowan, Jed Holler, Austin Holler, Dawn Harris, Nicole Nutting, Suezann, Heather, Katrina Shaw, Liz Thompson, Colton Shaw, April, Matt, and our 2005 Teen Pact mom, Mrs. Thompson. Thanks to all the people that make Teen Pact possible, and most important of all, I thank God, cause without Him, well, I wouldn't be writing this.

• NM Abstinence Education FOF Broadcast
  Focus on the Family broadcasted special radio programs featuring the recent challenges to federally funded abstinence education in New Mexico. The president of the NM Abstinence Education Coalition was interviewed Wednesday by Dr. Bill Meier along with Libby Gray of Project Reality and Linda Klepacki with the Public Policy Dept of Focus on the Family. This was a special half-hour broadcast only to NM radio stations. Secretary of Health Michelle Grisham was interviewed last Friday by Stuart Sheppard of Family News in Focus. Her remarks show even more clearly how her plans contradict federal regulations governing abstinence education funding in New Mexico. NMAEC has a full transcript of her entire 15 minute interview. Focus on the Family has a tape or CD available from the radio broadcasts for NM. Call 1800-AFamily and ask for resource #B00327C (tape) or #B00328D (CD).

• Window into Life
  On Sunday, March 6, 2005, at 8 p.m. ET/ 9 p.m. PT, the National Geographic Channel (NGC) presents "In the Womb," a two-hour special that uses the latest advances in technology to take viewers on the incredible adventure of a developing new life. Revolutionary 3-D and 4-D ultrasound imagery sheds light on the delicate, dark world of a fetus. Viewers will also have the chance to witness a rare fetoscope operation performed in the hope of correcting life-threatening complications before birth. While 2-D black-and-white ultrasound images have become commonplace, their crude resolution and technical limitations offer only partial insight into the developing fetus. But space-age advancements in computer technology permit the creation of 3-D scans that transform those same shadow images into lifelike pictures of the developing fetus. "In the Womb" features even more remarkable 4-D technology that adds the element of time to those 3-D pictures to produce action sequences of the fetus in real time. The truth will prevail. Unborn babies are human whether the mother "chooses" to want them or not.

  HB-445 WILL DEFINE MARRIAGE AS "ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN."
  SB-597 WILL DEFINE MARRIAGE AS "ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN."
  SJR-18 WILL LET VOTERS DECIDE VIA CONSTIUTIONAL AMENDMENT THAT MARRIAGE IS BETWEEN ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN.

  Regarding opposition to HB 337 & SB 360: "Oh for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise!!! I am so excited at what the Lord is doing! If this is won [bills fail], it is His mercy alone and a reminder at how we need to praise Him each day for the opportunity to teach our children of Him in freedom! What a privilege He has given us to do this and how we should fight forever for this freedom for all of the generations that come after us, just as it was fought for in America for our own sake. Our local directors have been traveling to Santa Fe weekly. We are seeing God's providence in that our legislators are asking very discerning questions now of those presenting this idea and are encouraged by this. I am so glad you are calling for prayer for our legislators! They are in a difficult position where the spiritual warfare is truly intense. I was also amazed to see how many huge moral issues are being determined this year (it may be true every year). It is disappointing to me how few church people are there for some of these issues. I will keep praying for you and the combined efforts of our churches in NM."

• Equal Rights or Definition?
  A reader brought this issue to my attention. What's wrong with letting same-sex couples "marry?" The debate over "marriage" for same-sex couples has been framed as an issue of "equal rights" - but it is not. The real issue is the definition of "marriage" itself. This paper explains how history, anthropology, and sociology demonstrate that a marriage cannot exist without the presence of both a man and a woman.   This would be a good article to send to your legislators. Factual information is more effective than just asking a legislator to support or oppose a bill. Legislators are more responsive to their own constituents than to a lobbyist or organization.

• Barrett House Grand Opening

  Barrett House held a grand opening at their new location, 10300 Constitution NE (near Eubank), on Feb 23. Barrett House has been operating in Albuquerque for about 20 years. The new location offers temporary housing for women and their children and can accommodate up to 43 people. Previously located at 905 13th NW near downtown Abq, Barrett House was required to move by May 2005. The City Council in Feb 2002 granted an appeal by the Wells Park Neighborhood Association preventing Barrett House from moving across the street. City Councilor Tina Cummins, who voted against granting the appeal, said she told Barrett House officials at the time, "If you find a place in District 9, I will welcome you with open arms." The new women's shelter site is in Cummins' district.

• The Rekindling - a Resource for Pastors, Missionaries, & Christian Leaders
  Over three years ago we began a ministry called On Fire Or Burned Out - specifically to encourage pastors, missionaries, and Christian leaders and leadership teams. In March of 2003 my wife and I purchased five acres here in the Manzano Mountains dedicating it to the Lord for the purpose of providing a retreat location near the city - but far enough away that it could be a respite for folks in ministry. We are listed with Focus on the Family in the Parsonage.org as a rest and relaxation location with light counseling.
  
  This past year we have increased our lodging & learning center area significantly - allowing us to accommodate groups of 12 - 15 comfortably. Most of our visitors know of us either by word of mouth, or through the Internet (Focus & Christian Hospitality Network). Now we'd like to let the Body in Albuquerque and surrounding area know of our facility, giving them an opportunity to enjoy some rest and peace nearby. To do that, we are holding a come-and-go open house here at The Rekindling on March 12 & 13, from 1-4 p.m. (that's Saturday and Sunday afternoons).

• Should a Christian Pay Federal Taxes?
  Response to the responder. Dan, All the issues you have raised are valid including the national ID and I appreciate your confirmation of the facts I have presented. I commend you for doing your homework! I for one do not believe we should give in to fear and intimidation. We both could find numerous verses old and new testament that confirm this. I do NOT pay federal taxes and know MANY others that do not and have not had any problems going on 3 years in June. Actually I am coded as not required to file. I can attest to the fact that "resistance is NOT futile." The real issue here is not taxes but rather our leaders going or not going to do what the Law of the Land (Constitution) requires? This issue is just a cog in the bigger constitutional issue which is multifaceted. It is my humble opinion that the constitution was, and still is, suspended with the war powers act in 1933. What we have is the "illusion" of law (De jure or De facto/true law vs in power). The Bible again calls us to be Bereans and judge for ourselves (not others) what is from God or from satan. True/ De Jure/lawful government is the only government we should follow as all else is deception. As far as the national ID card goes, this will be sorted out as events unfold. Hopefully it will not pass the senate or will be otherwise challenged in court. I sure hope it will be shot down as this is another very slippery slope. God Bless.

• Education Bonds - Conflict of Interest?
  Remember getting several advertisements in the mail before the school board/bond election? Color, large, heavy "bond" paper. Consider the cost for mailing fliers to the population of Albuquerque. Signs, websites, email, phone calls, radio coverage. What about billboards around Abq promoting the bond initiatives? Who paid for that? The people receiving the bond money! Who would have that kind of money to OPPOSE a bond initiative? There is NO money in opposing money. The tax levy question was the first of four upcoming APS elections for capital projects for 2006 to 2011. Next year, voters will be asked to approve a bond question. APS will hold another tax levy question in 2007 and another bond election in 2009. APS hopes to raise a total of $454.25 million for capital projects from all four elections.
  
  The Tomlins did some research giving a little insight into the organization identified on the advertisements. It appears that "Yes for Our Children's Future" is a nationwide effort (perhaps through NFT, and other unions?). I saw articles for San Antonio, TX and Long Island, NY.

  Is it possible our children could have a better future through private education and the privatization of public education? The Gov vetoed a bill mandating privatization after APS agreed to voluntarily consider privatization to correct the ailing/failing public school system. What happened to this initiative? How quickly we forget. They just keep ASKING FOR MORE MONEY!!!
