Eph 2:19
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
PRAYER -
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and
for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life
in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight
of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto
the knowledge of the truth. I Tim 2:1-4
- Pray for the
persecuted saints. International day of prayer - Nov 13.
- Pray for great discernment in the nomination and confirmation of judicial candidates. Their terms are long and extremely influential in these days of judicial activism.
- As Biblical principles are under attack in America today, public education is the most popular place to instill the values of atheism and secular humanism. Pray that Christians will have success in raising up teachers that understand Biblical principles for education and are not afraid to teach them. Pray for the Christian Heritage Speech Competition and American Education Week described below.
- Pray for alleviation of starvation around the world. We are blessed with a standard of living in America that virtually eliminates starvation. Pray for the governments of these countries to take responsibility or at least allow relief supplies to get to the people who need it.
- Pray for the freedom to teach the truth regarding origins of the universe, life, and humanity. We are at an amazing time in history where NEVER before has science seen so much evidence of our Creator. Praise God!
- Wings Ministry to families of prisoners. Families and prisoners are at a receptive time of their lives and many are open to spiritual guidance.

All Saints Day and Alternatives for Halloween
All Saints Day is a universal Christian Feast that honors and remembers all Christian saints, known and unknown. Biblically, we are all saints and prayer for suffering of the saints should be one of our highest priorities. Voice of the Martyrs has a story this month of three Indonesian women in prison for teaching children's Sunday School. Indonesia has a new "child protection law." Sound familiar? Public school teachers in America are fired if they are caught witnessing to students. The women's husbands are pictured praying for them but wouldn't it have been better for the men to have taken the lead on this? The women are subjected to a trial every Thursday where hostile Muslims scream "Kill them!" during the trial. Children brought in to testify about singing songs about Jesus break down sobbing in fear.
Ninety five verses reference the word "saints" in the Bible (KJV). Possibly the most poignant among them is the reference to martyred saints waiting patiently in heaven for judgement. "And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they [were], should be fulfilled." Rev 6:9-11
We know many people want to keep Jesus Christ at the center of their holidays. While Focus takes a middle-of-the-road approach to Halloween, we want to provide a balance of resources to help you as you decide what's best for your family. What About Christmas and Halloween? Dr. Dobson answers a reader who's concerned with the questionable spiritual origins of holidays like Christmas and Halloween. What to Do About Halloween? If you have problems with the traditional approach to Halloween, take a look at some child-friendly alternatives.
Remember the International Day of Prayer for the saints on Nov 12.

Run-Off Election
In accordance with the new law, candidates must garner at least 40% of the vote to win an election. Abq Dist 9 will conduct a run-off election between Don Harris and incumbent Tina Cummins on Nov 15. Total voters in Dist 9 on Oct 4: 8,420. Forty percent of 8,420 is 3,368. We'll be doing well to get even 40% of the voters to the polls for a run-off. So the test of a run-off is not getting at least 40%, it's how many people will RETURN to the polls! Additional voters could register by Oct 18th. More info on the runoff at www.cabq.gov/clerk.

Political Campaign - Public Financing
Do voters really understand the implications of giving public money to political candidates? We'll have to wait and see how it plays out in the next election. The proposition referred to the "Open Ethical Elections Code." Is the "Code" already written? What are the "voluntary limits?" What does "equal" public financing of campaigns? Candidates not participating will be at a disadvantage and required to raise their own money. Will non-participating candidates be ostracized by the city, participating candidates, and organizations? The city will create a bureaucracy to enforce "strict accountability." The worst will be the definition of "used in the manner in which they are intended." Will liberals ensure this definition excludes speech supporting right to life, traditional marriage, abstinence education, intelligent design, and other conservative positions? This law will likely be used to suppress the Christian worldview.

Volunteers Needed for Wings Party
Springer Boys School Wings Party - Nov 5. I had a wonderful conversation today with Chaplain Jake McLeroy at the Springer Boys School. Jake informed me that there is great excitement about the upcoming Wings Party to be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Springer Boys School in Springer, NM. If your name is on the "Volunteer List" and you can not make it, it doesn’t matter. But if you want to volunteer and your name is not on the list, you will NOT be able to attend the party. The juvenile center does background checks on all our volunteers. THANKS so much and I hope you will join us for this special party.

Harriet Miers Nomination to USSC
Miers' statement following her nomination on Oct 3. Did she or didn't she. Does she or doesn't she. Will she or won't she. Those are the concerns on the table for this nomination to the US Supreme Court. There is very little in her background to indicate her position on critical issues. Our senators have some very important decisions to make in the coming months. Please pray for them.

Friends of the Family is a group of key supporters who invest monthly in family ministry. Their commitment is key to the ongoing effectiveness of Focus on the Family and enables us to extend the ministry to many who cannot afford the resources and services they need.
