on 2008 NM Legis Session
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is
everlasting. Ps.107:1 Praise the
Lord! HB 9 (domestic partnerships)
died in the Senate Judiciary Committee and SB 23 (embryonic stem cell
research) died in the House Judiciary Committee as no further action was
taken on either of them and the 2008 session has ended. SB 185 (teen pregnancy) died in the
Senate Finance Committee.
According to the ABQ Journal on 2/15/08 Governor Richardson will
call a special session but only for healthcare reform.
Two traditional marriage bills were tabled in committee:
Both of these bills were tabled in the House Consumer and Public Affairs
Committee.
HJR
3 - PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE 20 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF NM TO
DEFINE MARRIAGE AS BETWEEN ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN.
HB
47 - RELATING TO MARRIAGE; DEFINING MARRIAGE AS A CIVIL CONTRACT
BETWEEN ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN.
HB
76 (Otero County Teen Pregnancy Prevention) never left the House
Appropriations and Finance Committee.
The bill would originally have allocated $100,000 to promote
abstinence education but was amended by HCPAC (public affairs committee)
to include "comprehensive" sex education.

Here’s a little note from the 2007 Legis Session. Anyone remember a bill for the
“Children’s Eyesight Fund?” You
may have notices a little box to check on your auto registration. So where does all this money go to and
who manages it? We’re not really
sure at this point.

Subject: Save Our Children's Sight Fund
Mr. Burton:
Thanks very much for your interest. I believe our registration renewal
materials may have misnamed the fund. If so, we will be correcting
the error very shortly. The correct name of the fund is the “Save Our
Children's Sight Fund,” and it was established by the 2007 Legislature in
two identical bills, HB1283 and SB1149.
I have included below the pertinent sections in statute. Our role is to
facilitate voluntary contributions, as described in Sec. 66-6-6.3, and to
pass the funds along to the State Treasury. For details on how the
program will be implemented, I would suggest you contact the New Mexico
Department of Health (NMDOH). I believe you will find that 100% of the
funds collected will be used by the NMDOH for the purposes
described in Sec. 24-1-31.
Thanks again for your interest. And please feel free to contact me again
if I can provide any additional information.

Another bill from 2007: Medical Marijuana, SB
523 (23 pages)
* Possession still a violation of Federal Law.
* Law enforcement does not know who is certified to possess marijuana.
* Who is the State certifying to produce marijuana? “Cannabis production facilities within
NM housed on secured grounds and operated by licensed producers.”
* An advisory board “shall convene at least twice per year.”
* How much is it costing taxpayers for the State to administer this
program?
“Task force officials have said agents did not know French had state
permission to use marijuana until after the raid. The state Department of Health has said
officers called after the raid to verify the man's state-issued marijuana
ID card. Law enforcement agencies have asked the department to tell them
who is certified to have marijuana, but the department said doing so would
violate federal patient privacy laws.” http://www.abqjournal.com/news/state/apmedmar01-17-08.htm

- CAPE
at the Capitol & Home Education Proclamation
And you shall teach them diligently…
Deut. 6:5-7
The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy
of government in the next. – Abraham Lincoln
CAPE annually sponsors CAPE at the Capitol, a day when home school
families from all across New Mexico convene in Santa Fe at the state
capitol building, known as The Roundhouse, to celebrate Home Education
Week in New Mexico and to meet and greet state legislators. This annual
assembly is our opportunity to bring the face of home schooling to New
Mexico's leaders, to remind them that we take our citizenship seriously,
and to express sincerely our appreciation for the public service of these
citizen legislators.
Attendance increased by over 180% this year; more than 360 home educating
fathers, mothers, and their sons and daughters visited Santa Fe to observe
the legislative process, and to introduce themselves to their legislators. While every district is not yet
represented, every lawmaker received an invitation to our convention and
contact information for CAPE. Many
personal contacts were established and the presence of God was evident.
Some of the God-moments that we heard about include:
* Senator Rainaldi (Gallup) had an abundance of home school visitors who
wanted to express their appreciation for his strong and unwavering
pro-family position. He was busy
with senatorial responsibilities, but his lovely wife spent time receiving
the love of the Lord from attendees along with home baked treats, only to
turn around and pass them out to the next wave. “I looked around, and I saw all these home school moms and
kids, just 'loving on her'. It was
such a God-thing.”
* Home schooled graduate and college student Nick Quintero checked for C@C
information online, registered himself, and drove himself to Santa Fe,
just to participate. Home schooled
high school student Caleb Cionelo took his place on the floor of the Senate
while he waited for an opportunity to testify to the Judiciary
Committee. His brother, Gideon,
used his time to persuade his exhausted family to wait just a few minutes
more, hoping to give Caleb that chance.
The committee chairman then adjourned early (for the fourth
time). Next year, Caleb!!
* DADS who attended were recognized as sacrificing to participate, and
reminded that they and their intact families were an unusual sight,
drawing attention! “I can’t
believe I’ve let my wife do this alone.
It is a wonderful opportunity, and I won’t miss out again!”
* Senator Cynthia Nava, chairman of the Senate Education Committee and
superintendent of the Gadsden School District slipped out of her
legislative session long enough to read the 2008 proclamation recognizing
parents as educators.
* Senator Clinton Harden asked us for the opportunity to publicly
acknowledge what a great impression our children were making on the
Roundhouse staff. He also reminded
us to pray fervently and faithfully for our legislators.

INC is now in Albuquerque
LaDonna, a single mom with 2 children, is in school to become a medical
tech. After leaving a failed relationship she and her two children started
over, moving into an unfurnished apartment. She had no money for
furnishings or bedding after using school loans for tuition and books.
Everyone was sleeping on the floor even though family and friends were
able to help with small things.
Love INC of South Albuquerque coordinated numerous volunteers from several
churches and a Christian ministry that were all able to come alongside the
family over a period of two months. Church members delivered the much
needed furniture from the Love INC warehouse while others provided a
Christmas tree and gifts for mom and her children. Another volunteer
family blessed the client with some much needed items (like medical scrubs
and toys for the children). It was
a joy for the staff of Love INC to see the interaction between the
volunteers and the family as they got to know each other, shared life
joys, laughed and prayed together. LaDonna has shared with us how truly
thankful she is for all of the help and support she has received. Her life has been transformed through
the power of Christ’s love which was seen in the words and actions of the
volunteers.
Love INC of South Albuquerque is a new affiliate of Love INC headquartered
in Minneapolis. We are part of an organization that was founded in 1977
and operates in over 130 cities in the US. Their mission and ours is to
mobilize the Church to transform lives and communities In the Name of
Christ. LaDonna and others are referred to our Clearinghouse (phone center)
by pastors, care providers, case managers and friends to seek help. Our
intake volunteers screen each request for extent of need and legitimacy,
then issue referrals to a local church ministry, church volunteer, or
community agency. Love INC follows up to ensure the need was met and to
offer spiritual support.
If your church would like to partner with us please call 255-LOVE (5683).

Abstinence Education Coalition
The mission of NM AEC is to
promote abstinence until marriage in New Mexico, focusing on youth and
young adults. Specific goals to
accomplish this mission include providing education about abstinence;
providing resources, support, and technical assistance; providing
networking opportunities; providing information about funding sources;
advocating in support of abstinence; and promoting sexual health.
In a hostile move by the NM Dept of Health and Dept of Education,
abstinence education is now restricted to grades six and below in public

Vaccines & Aborted Babies
From: Kristi Rardin [rardins@nmia.com]
Sent: Monday, January 28, 2008 3:58 PM
Subject: Vaccine information update
The email I sent out a couple weeks ago, with the shocking news that some
of our childhood vaccines rely on cell lines created from lung tissue of
aborted babies, really caused quite a stir. I completely understand, as I was so grieved by this news I
was physically ill. I have had a
lot of replies asking whether my sources were true, and I have also been
advised to not encourage people to not vaccinate their kids. I've continued to do more research on
the subject, just to make sense of it all and figure out what actions to
take or not take. So, please bear
with me as I send this second email in an attempt to clarify the data and
answer some of the questions that were sent to me.
this important email and a quick-reference chart to help keep track of
which vaccines to choose.

Talk Back
I admit I am very discouraged and dismayed with the choice of Republican
candidate running for President.
We had some good ones but they got no where (Duncan Hunter and Fred
Thompson). Of course the media has
promoted the most democrat like Republican and so they are now the front
runners. Keep in mind that there
has only been one primary or caucus so far that was entirely Republican
voters casting votes for the Republican candidates. That was Florida just last week. Every previous contest, independents
could vote and thus independents have helped sway the votes away from the
more conservative or true Republican candidates toward those we have in
front today. This is offensive and
it is disenfranchising true Republican voters. Many of us will have no voice, as in New Mexico, the
decision will be completed before we even get to our June primary. Some of you on this list will vote on
Tuesday of this coming week. I am
hoping that all three candidates split the vote and no one comes out
ahead, no one gets sufficient delegates to be declared the nominee. At this point I say "none of the
above." Its time for the
grassroots to campaign to get some one to SOC (Save our Country) for us!
Someone like JC Watts. Come
on JC, step up to the plate for the good of the nation! Time for a little revolution. Like T Jefferson said, "a little
revolution now and then is a healthy thing (or something close to that
effect.) Venting helps - We need another choice! - Kathryn Cooper
Important parallels have come to my mind regarding the comparison of this
issue [same-sex marriage] to slavery. These parallels are not the ones
that the supporters of ‘same sex marriage’ are talking about in a
distorted fashion. Slavery tore at
the very fabric of families. Slavery destroyed families and black families
are suffering the horrible consequences of that even to this day. ‘Same sex marriage’ completely
undermines real marriage and will complete the destruction of the family
in America. Real Christians led
the fight to abolish slavery, because it was clearly against biblical
principles. Real Christians are
leading the struggle against ‘same sex marriage’ because it is clearly
against biblical principles. If
the proponents of ‘same sex marriage’ succeed; I believe it will lead
divide our nation and lead to civil war.

I thought you might find this interesting/scary - http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1606679,00.html
Until now, I wasn't aware that politics in neighboring CO (home of Focus
on the Family, etc.) had changed that much recently on social conservative
issues. Perhaps some of you
already know about gay activist Tim Gill moving to CO and his
"stealth" Gill Action Fund and Gill Foundation throwing millions
around to liberalize politics there and targeting other mountain west
states! This year (for the 2nd or
3rd year - I've lost track) we have been battling against HB-9 and similar
measures in the NM legislature and (Praise the Lord!) we squeaked by with
a win again. However, in reading
the article above, NM could be targeted in the future by Tim Gill and his
ilk if it hasn't already. Let's
keep praying now that we'll be ready in NM for even bigger battles
then. HMS,Vern Hershberger,

the symptoms of a culture in need of God.
Why wait until the situation gets even worse? God ordained three institutions to
influence society for good – Civil
Government, the Church, and the Family.
Each has a God given role. Without
God, these institutions become corrupt and we see evil instead of
good. The Center for Traditional
Family Values has a vision
for NM beyond opposing bad legislation. We need your support today to pursue that vision. For more information, call 505 609-9609

* For he is the minister of God to thee for good. (Rom 13:4)
* That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
(2 Ti 3:17)
* So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them.
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall
cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. (Gen 1:27,31; 2:24)
