Our spiritual republic rests upon four basic principles. These have been
summed up by an eminent English statesman and jurist, Sir James Stephen.(1)
- “Firstly that the will of the people was the one legitimate source of
the power of the rulers
- “Secondly, that the power was most properly delegated by the people, to
their rulers, by means of elections, in which every adult man might
exercise the right of suffrage
- “Thirdly, that in ecclesiastical government, the clergy and laity were
entitled to an equal and co-ordinate authority
- “Fourthly that between the Church and State, no alliance, or mutual dependence,
or other definite relation, necessarily or properly existed
The battle cry for early American patriots was Life, Liberty, and the
Pursuit of Happiness (AKA freedom to own property). What is happening to the right to life,
religious liberty, and property ownership (eminent domain: government
confiscation of property) of American citizens today? The price of liberty is eternal
vigilance. An apathetic,
uneducated populace ŕ domination.
This is our stewardship of civil government.
- Luk 16:10 He that is faithful in
that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the
least is unjust also in much.
- Luk 16:11 If therefore ye have
not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust
the true riches?

Are you able to question the political views of your church leaders? Church government modeled the pattern
for civil government in 17th and 18th century
America. Each congregation was
left to elect its own officers and to conduct its own affairs. Fiske
pronounces it, “one of the most effective schools that has ever existed
for training men in local self-government.”(2) The philosophy of church
leadership becomes the philosophy of the church. Consider the options: political apathy, political separatism
(e.g., Mennonites, Amish), liberal activism, conservative activism. Where does your church stand?
Consider the political agenda of these liberal organizations in NM. Some issues we agree on, some we don’t. Compare their principles with the Bible. Are they principles of freedom or
socialism? Do they support justice,
life, and traditional marriage?

God has established governments as ministries to provide order in the nations
so that we are able to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the world
to further the Great Commission.
He is sovereign over the nations and removes leaders and establishes
leaders as He wishes. In our
country He has given us the privilege to vote for candidates from which
our leaders are elected. As
citizens of heaven and of this country we are to pray and to vote wisely.
On May 1, 2008 we had a meeting with Dr. Rick Scarborough, President of Vision
America, http://www.visionamerica.us/,
with a goal of enlisting 1,000 pastors and priests in New Mexico to have
non-partisan voter registration drives at their churches and encourage
their members to vote in the 2008 elections, http://www.visionamerica.us/vision-new-mexico/.
You can help us with these non-partisan voter registration drives by emailing
me the names of pastors and priests in New Mexico and their churches along
with their mailing addresses, phone numbers and email addresses and
letting me know if you would be willing to volunteer to be trained as a
voter registrar for your church.
From the ADF email regarding the attached letter for pastors and priests: "In
addition to information on Elane, good information for yours and Mr.
Scarborough’s efforts to recruit Pastors is in the attached letter. This
letter, specifically authored for Pastors in Jan 2008, provides them with
concrete legal advice that they do have a political voice, and can speak
out without fear. Moreover, our advice
comes with a promise—'If you are contacted by any government official or private
activist group on such issues, please call us immediately. The Alliance Defense
Fund’s attorneys will promptly review your situation and make every effort
to defend your church’s legal rights to speak freely in support of
important social and moral issues.' "

- Military Honor &
Decency Act
It’s pretty bad when military members are whining that they need
pornography and justify the military exchange to carry it. What’s worse, is commanders and
politicians who acknowledge the whining, bow to the god of money
(pornography industry), and use the excuse that the military benefits from
the sales. I was an officer in the
Air Force at Brooks AFB TX in the early 90s. At that time, the BX carried a lot more pornography and was
expanding its selection. The Base
Commander, Col Hudson, claimed the troops needed pornography and would not
remove it from the base exchange (BX).
He said as long as legislation did not prohibit it, he would allow
the BX to sell it. Col Hudson told
me these things face to face and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. While I was talking to the chaplain
about the issue and his possible influence on the Base Commander, some
people (coincidentally, providentially) carried in the belongings of a
young airman who had recently committed suicide. Among those belongings were several large stacks of
pornographic magazines that had led to despair, depression, and eventual
suicide of this airman. When I
brought the situation to the attention of Col Hudson, I was threatened
with punishment if I told anyone about it, especially the media.
By the mid-90s, Congress passed legislation limiting sales of pornography
to Playboy because it was not considered “sexually explicit” even though
military exchanges were required to keep children away from the
magazines. Now the issue is
resurfacing with an effort to remove all pornography from military
exchanges. Cast your vote at the
following link whether you believe our military NEEDS pornography to
function.
http://www.military.com/features/0,15240,167090,00.html?ESRC=airforce-a.nl
Contact the sponsor of this legislation, U.S.
Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga, if you support the measure to remove
pornography from military exchanges.
This legislation impacts every military community in the world.
Army and Air Force Exchange service public relations manager Judd Anstey
said AAFES sold $231,000 worth of Penthouse, Playboy and Playgirl
magazines in Europe last year. “Sales of these three titles account for
2.7 percent of total European magazine sales ($8.5 million) at AAFES
facilities,” he said. The sales accounted for 0.5 percent of worldwide
AAFES magazine sales of $46.4 million.
An interesting side bar to this issue is the degrading standard for public
decency. The Albuquerque
City Ordinance uses a four part criteria for establishing “obscenity.”(1) The fourth part (violence) precludes
prosecution of “mere” nudity in advertising or art.
The strongest military forces have been those founded on absolute moral
principles, unwavering when the culture falls into degradation.
“That which chiefly distinguished the army of Cromwell from other armies,
was the austere morality and the fear of God which pervaded the ranks. It
is acknowledged by the most zealous Royalists that, in that singular camp,
no oath was heard, no drunkenness or gambling was seen, and that, during
the long dominion of soldiery, the property of the peaceable citizens and
the honor of woman were held sacred. No servant girl complained of the
rough gallantry of the redcoats. Not an ounce of plate was taken from the
shops of the goldsmiths.”(2)
George Washington, and others, were known for similar strict
discipline in the American army.

- Defending
Life
On June 7th, there is a "Men Under Construction" Retreat at St
Thomas Aquinas sponsored by their men's group, endorsed by the
Archdiocese. The Archbishop will be there as he was last year. Don't miss
this. Registration is limited as capacity is 400 men on a "1st come,
1st serve" basis. Last year's retreat was awesome and this year's is
pointing to be even better. Main Speaker: Jeff Cavins of EWTN fame. Breakout
sessions in the afternoon; confessions, Mass (Archbishop), and lunch
included. See flyer at: http://www.drawntolight.com/muc.html.
Thank you and don't miss this great opportunity. I am giving one of the
breakout sessions, but come anyway!

- My
Country Tis of Thee
I just walked down the street to the coffee shop had to take a break
I'd been by her side for eighteen hours straight
I saw a flower growing in the middle of the sidewalk
pushing up through the concrete
like it was planted right there for me to see
the flashin' lights, the honkin' horns all seemed to fade away
in the shadow of that hospital at 5:08
I saw God today
I've been to church
I've read the Book
I know He's here, but I don't look
near as often as I should
Yeah, I know I should
His fingerprints are everywhere
I'd just slow down to stop and stare
opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today
I saw a couple walking by they were holding hands
Man, she had that glow
yeah I couldn't help but notice she was starting to show
it stood there for a minute takin' the sky
lost in that sunset
a splash of amber melted in the shades of red
I got my face pressed up against the nursery glass
She's sleeping like a rock
My name on her wrist wearing tiny pink socks
She's got my nose, she's got her mama's eyes
My brand new baby girl
She's a miracle
I saw God today

of the Family is a group of key supporters who invest
monthly in family ministry. Their commitment is key to the ongoing
effectiveness of Focus on the Family and enables us to extend the ministry
to many who cannot afford the resources and services they need. They also
enable our radio programs, our efforts to defend family values, and our
outreaches to special groups like teens, unwed mothers, and
non-Christians. For more information, call 1-800-A-FAMILY.
Center for Traditional
Family Values NM is a newly formed yet cohesive, nondenominational
grassroots organization of families and individuals who see a distinct
shift in American values. God is
moving the hearts of believers today to renew an emphasis on His design
for man, woman, and the traditional family. We see the devastating consequences around us from ignoring
those values – violence, drugs, divorce, suicide, abortion, broken
relationships, etcetera. They are
the symptoms of a culture in need of God.
Why wait until the situation gets even worse? God ordained three institutions to
influence society for good – Civil
Government, the Church, and the Family.
Each has a God given role.
Without God, these institutions become corrupt and we see evil
instead of good. The Center for
Traditional Family Values has a vision for NM beyond opposing bad
legislation. We need your support
today to pursue that vision. For
more information, call 505 609-9609 or email info@traditionalvaluenm.org.
* Civil Govt - For he is the minister of God to thee for good.
(Rom 13:4)
* Church - That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished
unto all good works. (2 Ti 3:17)
* Family - So God created man in his own image, in the image of God
created he him; male and female created he them. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it
was very good. Therefore shall a man leave his father
and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one
flesh. (Gen 1:27,31; 2:24)
