Keep Christ in Christmas

 

In a culture increasingly hostile to Christianity, our focus should be on Jesus, God’s gift to mankind.

 

The star of the poinsettia leaf is said to represent the star that stood over the Christ Child. The red flower symbolizes the shed blood of Christ who came to be our Savior and the blood of the male infants that King Herod had slain. The white reminds us of the purity of His sacrifice.

 

Based on current advertising, AFA compiled a list of companies that avoid, ban, or use the term "Christmas" in their advertising.  http://www.afa.net/christmaslist.asp  As of Dec 15th, Costco changed their tune.  Two weeks ago, their website and store was practically absent of any references to “Christmas.”  Today, you’ll find Christmas prominently featured on their website and email promotions.  And, if you call their corporate offices, you’ll be greeted with “Merry Christmas from Costco!”  One unnamed store manager said, “The company has received so many emails and complaints that they are changing all their holiday cakes to say Merry Christmas and will be saying it in the stores.”  http://www.costco.com/

 

"Should Christians celebrate Christmas?" or, "How should a Christian celebrate Christmas?" These are questions of concern for many sincere believers.  After considering eight specific arguments, this author concludes that each family needs to make up their own minds. Illyricum Mission (Albania) – November 20, 2008

Christmas is a “blessed time to talk about the gospel anywhere in Albania, in Muslim and Orthodox communities,” writes the ILM leader.  Pray that God will use their Christmas evangelistic programs to plant a church in Gramsh and lead many souls to Christ.  They need $650 to cover each of the two Christmas outreach programs.  340ILM-11

 

Life Missions Africa (Senegal) – November 4, 2008

No trees, decorations, or gifts are part of Life Missions Africa’s Christmas evangelism campaign.  Believers throughout the nation prepare dinner meetings where they show Christian videos, preach, and answer questions.  Muslims who would never consider attending church enthusiastically accept their believing neighbors’ invitations on Christmas holidays.  Each gathering averages $250.  522LMS-11

 

Giza Evangelism and Discipleship (Egypt) – October 31, 2008

Join GED workers in praying for their Christmas evangelistic outreach to 300 poor families.  Workers plan to visit each family with a gift of food, clothing, and blankets ($8 per family) and offer them the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.  408GED-10

 

 

Don’t Be Fooled

 

"The Bible's Buried Secrets," a new PBS documentary aired in Nov, seemed designed to undermine the Bible. Perhaps the "scholars" behind the PBS "documentary" simply chose to ignore the evidence. After all, politically correct deceptions are far more acceptable than facts to a world that no longer tolerates truth. Biblical truth is often challenged in the areas of sanctity of human life, sanctity of marriage, and creation.  Newsweek Magazine published a lengthy article stating that the Bible supports homosexual marriage. Jonathan WellsJonathan Wells plans to visit New Mexico on Jan 20th.  He is a leading figure in the intelligent design movement, and is author or coauthor of "Icons of Evolution," "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Darwinism and Intelligent Design," and "The Design of Life." “Journey Through Cancer” by Mark Ortega

 

The year was 1978. My mother was dying of cancer. Because medical technology wasn’t as advanced as it is today the Doctors didn’t diagnose it till 6 months after she first got sick. When I first heard the news my oldest sister told me on the phone. I naively asked her what was going to happen to my mom. My sister told me she was going to die. I went off to be by myself alone to cry. Shortly after that I saw her for the last time. It must have been obvious that I was devastated. My mom felt bad that I had to see her like that. Shortly afterwards she was gone. As the years passed her mother, sisters and aunt died from cancer. For years I didn’t know how to deal with the sorrow. It seemed like I couldn’t cry any more tears and my heart would always be broken. But time, loving family and friends and most of all the love of God helped me get through it. Then within the last few years a very dear friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. I will call her Godmother throughout this article to protect her privacy.

Jan 24, Luminaria Memorial

 

Albuquerque Right To Life will commemorate the 35th anniversary of the U. S. Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion with a luminaria memorial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Paseo del Norte & Wyoming NE. One thousand luminaria bags will be placed near a gravesite honoring this past year’s aborted, unborn children of New Mexico. Each bag will feature five names to remember the approximately 5,000 children that were conceived but not named.

 

A service will be held in the chapel at 5:30 pm after all the candles have been lit that will include presentations by students who gave their award winning speeches on the abortion issue at the Christian Heritage Speech Competition last Nov. Please join us to honor the 5,000 unborn New Mexico children who died last year due to abortion.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”  There is no God-given Right to kill another human being, regardless of where he or she lives.  Does first breath make a baby human?  The US Supreme Court says “yes” (Roe vs. Wade: How legal fiction became our reality).  Medical procedure (abortion) before first breath.  Murder after first breath.  But then, the US Supreme Court also said Blacks were property, not people (Dred Scott Decision). 

 

On January 22, 1973, a new generation of American women began celebrating their liberation. A mother’s womb suddenly became the most life-threatening place in America as Roe vs. Wade forced legalized abortion on the people of all 50 states. The U.S. Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, imperiously trampled the human rights of the most helpless of the land. Faith Night with the Scorpions on January 20, 2009 at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho

$2.00 of each ticket sold for just $9.50 will go to help Haven House, a non-profit shelter for abused women and their children.  Worship time at 9 pm after the Scorpion's game.  We're calling upon all Christians from around the State of NM to pray for this event and when we have done all that we can to stand, we are sure to see The Glory of God!  [Bob Samala, 250-0315.]

 

Several area worship teams will be near the food court at Cottonwood Mall in Albuquerque on Dec 20th between 2-6pm.
